Basic RiderCourse 1 (BRC1)
The Basic RiderCourse 1 (BRC1) is aimed at the beginning rider. It consists of three, five hour sessions providing five hours of classroom instruction and ten hours of riding in a controlled off-street environment. Motorcycles and helmets are provided for your use and included in the fee.
$245.00 for ages 21 and older
$150.00 for ages 20 and under.
Minors will need a legal parent or guardian to sign a waiver in person at the beginning of the class. Make sure you visit the FAQ's section for more information on scheduling and payments.
In the classroom, you will learn about the different types of motorcycles, their controls, how they operate, and how to become a responsible rider. You will be working with other students in small groups, learn how to create your own strategies with plenty of emphasis on the special skills and mental attitude necessary for dealing with traffic and other critical situations. The classroom will conclude with a knowledge test.
The riding sessions are designed to help riders develop their own safe riding techniques. The first riding session will include a thorough review of the controls before proceeding to the basics of riding, including straight line riding, turning, shifting, and braking. The second riding session will progress to cornering, swerving, and emergency braking. This riding session concludes with a skill evaluation.
Students who successfully complete the Basic RiderCourse 1 (BRC1) will receive a Motorcycle Safety Foundation completion card and are also entitled to a DMV certified document (DL 389) that may waive the riding portion of the Motorcycle endorsement examination at the DMV.
